Since a child I've sometimes been indecisive on making decisions between choices. The desire to pick the absolute best choice results in a lot of time-related pressure.
This is visualization of the consequences of disregarding time.
1. Inspiration - Wanted the jewelry piece convey the serious message in a playful way, as if the overthinking was done on accident.
2. Initial concept - A TNT shape bomb, this version didn’t work in terms of spacing on the wrist and strength.
3. Revised concept - A circular bomb with two versions: silver, & silver with enamel.
Stylus trend forecasting group: “Fun, kitschy escapism – riffing off pop-culture icons from convenience culture.
Retro cartoons and tacky tourist gifts get maximalist color and finishes”
Interactive element made in Touchdesigner connected to a midi keyboard.
A interactive activity that takes the jewelry pieces and makes them into swirling particles controlled by a keyboard.
The idea was to make a pseudo-retail experience where people could see custom combinations of materials to their liking at the touch of a button (e.g silver with green enamel, gold ring with rubies etc).
This ring is about the curated influence of media on people & their beliefs. Seeing is believing, and it feels like much of what people think is shaped by what they see online over time.
The design is of a retro cracked tv screen with distorted static.
There is so much going on behind the scenes. If digital media didn’t exist, what would you believe in?
1. Inspiration - The exaggerated bezels around the tv screen with contrasting square outline & hypnotic static effect of a broken TV
2. Concepts - Ideas revolved around something flowing into & out of the tv through some cracks, like something going through a transformation. Set stones represent the broken static effect of the screen.
Stylus trend forecasting group: “Designers and brands are looking back to the experimental 60s and 70s for some retro geo inspiration. Retro-futuristic styling, exciting material finishes, bold geometric shapes & graphic enameling are inspiring modern makers.”
Additional moodboard: Inspiration from the concept of "framing" from windows, prison TVs, & advertisements with distortion and white noise. Framing being about how you see the outside world and noise/distortion being about how hypnotic it can be. Fluid forms were also incorporated into the ring design to signify flow of information.
A 3D wax print of the bracelet given to the caster
A 3D wax print of the ring to be casted
Each wax model is placed in a cylinder then a hardening plaster is cast around it
Sterling silver is melted into a liquid here, and the wax is melted out next to it
The cylinder is placed into a holder then metal is poured into it
Rough silver casting bracelet
Rough silver casted ring
Silver is polished then sent to be finished at other jewelers (stone setting & enamel)
